Masonry Tools 1600x464

Get the Right Masonry Tools for Your Next Project.

If you’re doing any masonry work be sure to have all the masonry tools you’ll need on hand. Various sizes of cement trowels are available for use, depending on the size of your project. Troweling is necessary to smooth out and even the surface on freshly poured concrete. A tuck pointer, or pointing trowel, is smaller and designed to fill small cavities that a brick trowel can't get into. For finishing around windows and other confined areas you’ll want a margin trowel or window trowel with a flat rectangular blade. Corner trowels are ideal for shaping around and inside corners: the handle at the centre of the 90-degree blade-bend allows for even application of pressure to both sides of the corner. Use a hand float to remove any imperfections and create a flatter surface. A finishing trowel will help you achieve a perfectly smooth concrete finish and is ideal for interior concrete projects.

If you’re installing large slabs you’ll want a concrete edger with a wide, flat blade to round out the edges and prevent chipping. A concrete broom will roughen up the surface to create a non-slip finish. If you’re laying down tiles, you’ll need a notched trowel. Square-notch trowels and U-notch trowels are the most common shape and can be used with porcelain, ceramic, stone, and cement tiles.
