Here’s How to Smoke, Grill & Fry a Fantastic Backyard Feast

Wood pellet smokers have transformed backyard BBQing, but a charcoal smoker still offers some unique advantages. Pellet systems are designed for smoking meat at constant, lower temperatures, but higher temperatures are harder to reach and maintain. A charcoal smoker delivers both: you can cook low and slow or grill hot and fast simply by controlling the airflow. The traditional offset smoker is still a favourite, with the firebox attached to the side of a cylindrical cooking chamber. A bullet smoker features a vertical design and water pan that helps to hydrate the meat for juicier results. Other types of vertical smokers are also available, offering fast cook times and greater portability. An electric smoker is another great option, offering precise temperature control for set-it-and-forget-it ease of use.

With so many smoking and grilling options available the benefits of outdoor frying are sometimes overlooked. A propane fryer allows you to add tasty wings or fried fish to the menu, or a side of crispy fries to your burgers. If you already have a suitable pot all you need is a good propane burner. Otherwise opt for a complete burner with pot set, or even a dedicated oil-less turkey fryer.
