Canada Day is more than fireworks and BBQs—it's a time to express pride in our heritage with festive décor and handmade charm. Whether you’re decorating your porch, setting the picnic table, or crafting something cozy indoors, these Canadian-themed DIYs are sure to add a patriotic touch to your celebration.

Instructions:

  1. Cut two pieces of canvas drop cloth to your desired pillow size, adding a seam allowance.

  2. Print a maple leaf stencil that fits your pillow.

  3. Trace and carefully cut the stencil out of the transparency film using your hobby knife.

  4. Place the stencil in the center of the fabric and use the stencil brush with a dry brush technique to paint the maple leaf.

  5. Use painter’s tape to mask off borders about 11.5 cm wide, then stencil those areas for a framed look.

  6. Sew the two pieces together, leaving a small gap.

  7. Turn it right side out, stuff with polyester filling, and finish by hand-stitching the opening.

Voila! A custom patriotic pillow perfect for your Canada Day decor.

Instructions:

  1. Cut cedar into 1"–1.5" thick coasters and sand smooth.

  2. Trace the maple leaf pattern on the acetate with a fine black permanent marker.

  3. Cut stencil with a hobby knife.

  4. Place the stencil in the centre of the coaster and secure it in place.

  5. Stencil the leaf with the black paint using a dry brush technique. Let dry.

  6. Coat the entire coaster in dark paste wax and buff. Apply a second coat to enhance the cedar wood and offer water resistance.

  7. Cut and hot glue the rope around edges. NOTE: glue only one side at a time and hold in place to set.

Pair with your favorite drink—like our feature “Briarwood”—and toast to summer!

A DIY Canadian Flag Serving Board

Instructions:

  1. Prep the Wood: Cut your pine to a 2' length and sand until smooth.

  2. Paint the Flag: Mask off the center section using painter’s tape and paint it Yuedh xá white. Let dry. Once dry, mask off and paint the two red end sections with Patriot Love. Let dry completely.

  3. Create the Maple Leaf Stencil: Using Bristol board, trace a maple leaf and carefully cut it out with a hobby knife and metal-edged ruler. Lightly spray the back with adhesive and position it in the center of your tray.

  4. Stencil the Leaf: Use a dry brush technique to apply Patriot Love inside the stencil. Let dry for 24 hours.

  5. Finish the Surface: Apply 2 to 3 coats of paste wax to seal and protect the tray.

Attach the Handles

  1. Mark handle placement on the underside of the tray.

  2. Drill a 1" wide, ¾" deep countersink hole with the Forstner bit for the nuts and washers.

  3. Drill 3/8" holes for the handle bolts and install the handles. Use a rubber mallet if needed to gently tap them into place.

Cheers to a tray that proudly serves up Canadian style, one project at a time!

Instructions:

Step 1: Prepare the Boards

  1. Arrange your five pine boards horizontally, these will form the backdrop of your flag.

  2. Trim the boards to an even length if needed.

  3. Lightly sand the surfaces just enough to remove splinters while keeping the rustic texture intact.

Step 2: Assemble the Flag

  1. Lay two vertical boards (scrap wood works) across the back to brace and connect the horizontal boards.

  2. Screw or nail through the vertical braces into each of the horizontal boards to hold them together.

  3. Optional: Apply wood glue between the boards before securing for added stability.

Step 3: Paint the Flag

  1. With the boards assembled, lightly mark where the red side sections will go to represent the flags stripes.

  2. Paint the two outer sections red.

  3. Paint the inner section white.

  4. Allow the paint to dry completely.

Step 4: Add the Maple Leaf

  1. Center your maple leaf stencil on the middle board.

  2. Lightly trace the stencil with a pencil.

  3. Paint the inside of the maple leaf with red paint using a small brush.

  4. Let dry and touch up edges for a clean finish, or leave rough for a more weathered, rustic look.

Step 5: Add Hanging Hardware

  1. Flip your flag over and attach D-rings to the back of the vertical support boards or staple a wire for hanging.

  2. Alternatively, lean it against a wall or display it on your porch for a relaxed look.

Display Ideas:

  • Hang on a fence, porch wall, or inside your entryway.

  • Add solar string lights for nighttime charm.

  • Lean it near your front door with a potted maple tree or red-and-white flowers.

Project Tip: For an extra rustic vibe, distress the painted surface lightly with sandpaper after it dries to expose some wood grain and give it a weathered, patriotic finish.

Instructions:

Step 1: Prep the Surfaces

  1. Wipe down the clay pot and saucer to remove any dust or debris.

  2. Let them dry completely before painting.

Step 2: Paint

  1. Apply a smooth coat of Patriot Love red paint to both the pot and the saucer.

  2. Let dry, then apply a second coat if needed for even coverage.

  3. (Optional) Seal with a clear satin or gloss spray for added protection—let dry according to product instructions.

Step 3: Assemble the Cake Stand

  1. Flip the flowerpot upside down so the opening faces the table—it will become the base.

  2. Apply a strong adhesive to the bottom of the pot (now the top surface).

  3. Center the clay saucer on top of the pot and press down firmly.

  4. Allow glue to cure fully according to the product instructions (usually 24 hours).

IMPORTANT: Food Safety Note

Do not place food directly on the painted surface. Always line the saucer with wax paper, parchment paper, or plastic wrap before adding any baked goods or snacks.

Display Ideas:

  • Use for Canada Day cupcakes, cookies, or donuts.

  • Add a small decorative maple leaf or red-and-white ribbon around the base for extra flair.

  • Stack a smaller painted saucer on a mini pot for a tiered look!

Pair your projects with red-and-white flowers, string lights, or a DIY banner to complete the look. Whether you’re hosting a gathering or just enjoying the day with family, these hands-on crafts help bring Canadian pride to life—one brushstroke, board, or pillow at a time.
